Ultraloq U-Bolt pro + Wi-Fi Bridge – Review
Design and thumbprint door lock
The U-Bolt Pro is equipped with interior and exterior escutcheons, a fingerprint deadbolt assembly, 4 AA batteries, a screwdriver, mounting screws, and a Wi-Fi bridge to the plugin. You can expect the smart doorknob and lock to fit any standard door.
The exterior is inbuilt with a 360-degree fingerprint scanner in the center. There’s an inbuilt LED ring that glows to update you on the door; it glows green to show the door is locked or unlocked and red whenever an incorrect code or thumbprint has been used.
Right there on the scanner are the number buttons which are used for pin code entry. The Ultraloq button is also there to lock the door on the outside and light up the keypad. You can configure your pin codes to be temporary or permanent, or even for certain days.
You can also use the mobile app, which supports Android and iOS in locking or unlocking your door. The red indicator light is for when it’s locked and green when it’s unlocked. This access can also be shared with others, along with fingerprint door lock access.
The app allows you to add users, giving them access of any kind; it shows a log screen that gives you access to all lock activity, including who locked it and how they did. You can also use it to disable certain features, enable notifications, set up, or update as needed.
Mechanical key usage
Even though there are several options for our convenience, sometimes you miss the old-fashioned way of doing things. Right there on the scanner, by pulling the keypad and folding it, you access a hidden keyway that allows you to use your mechanical key in case that’s your favored option.
Auto-lick, Auto-unlock, and Magical shake
The auto-lock feature functions such that after a period set by you, the door automatically locks.
The auto-unlock feature uses your location to know when you’re approaching the door and unlocks it as you get there.
The magical shake allows you to unlock your door by shaking before the exterior. However, a minor issue is that this is still undergoing several testings and so hasn’t reached the stage it’s needed to be: at which point you can do this without unlocking your phone.
The U-bolt pro has a Bluetooth radio and a Wi-Fi bridge option. You can then integrate with IFTTT, which enables it to work with other smart devices like cameras, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant voice commands, which offer another way to unlock your door. Even though the app is iOS supported, the Ultraloq Smart Lock doesn’t support Apple’s home kit.
Batteries and USB
The lock is powered by four AA batteries which you can access via a removable cover in the interior. There’s also a micro USB port that allows you to unlock in an emergency if your batteries die out before the one-year lifetime or 8000 uses, as said by Ultraloq.
This is very straightforward, and instructions are provided. Once installed on the door edge, move on to download the mobile app, create an account and set up as preferred. If you have a Wi-Fi bridge, the installation is also very simple, and you can find Add Bridge on your screen, plug the bridge into an outlet, enter your Wi-Fi details, and pair accordingly.
Alone, the U-bolt pro goes for $189.99, but if you’re to purchase with the Wi-Fi bridge, it costs $209.99.
Ultraloq U-Bolt pro + Wi-Fi Bridge – Conclusion
The smart Lock technology used by Ultraloq U-bolt pro ensures that users have six different ways of unlocking a door: mobile app, Google voice unlock, mechanical key, fingerprint lock, magical shake, and biometric door lock.
You don’t need to have been locked out, missed your key or phone to appreciate how much of a smart home device this is. Our recommendation is to get one as soon as possible as this is currently the best smart lock we’ve reviewed.
